South Creek Stage 1 Gravity Carrier Pipeline
SECTORS:
CIVIL & STRUCTURES, WATER & WASTEWATER
CLIENT:
Sydney Water
REGION:
NSW
STATUS
In Progress
COMPLETION DATE:
This project reinforces our capability in large‑scale trenchless infrastructure, complex temporary works, and safe execution in constrained environments, supporting our strategic growth across Western Sydney’s critical water and wastewater networks.
The Upper South Creek Networks Program – South Creek Stage 1 Gravity Carrier Pipeline Contract forms a key component of Sydney Water’s long-term wastewater infrastructure upgrades in Western Sydney. The project involves the construction of a major gravity carrier pipeline through the South Creek corridor at Badgerys Creek, supporting future growth and servicing capacity for the Western Sydney Aerotropolis region. The works include complex trenchless construction delivered within a live infrastructure and environmentally sensitive corridor, requiring detailed planning, advanced temporary works, and strict safety and environmental controls.
Key Aspects of Scope & Delivery
1,547 linear metres of OD1499 GRP gravity pipeline via microtunnelling
Seven (7) launch and receive shafts, up to 20 metres deep
DN3400 FRP maintenance holes
Temporary works design and construction, including traffic control, geotechnical works, surveying, services
Supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of pipeline
Scope of Works
The complete delivery of the South Creek Stage 1 Gravity Carrier Pipeline, including supply, design of temporary works, construction, testing, and compliance with all Sydney Water and regulatory standards.
Installation of ~1.5 km DN1400 GRP jacking pipes via Combination of Microtunnelling (under Elizabeth Drive and sensitive corridors) and open trench construction in accessible sections.
FRP construction of 7 x DN3400 maintenance holes
Achievements & Engineering
Development of construction methodologies to safely deliver trenchless works within a constrained operating corridor
Engineering planning to manage variable ground conditions, groundwater, and deep excavations
Design coordination of temporary works to support safe shaft construction and tunnelling
Integration of geotechnical, structural, & construction for constructability & risk mitigation
Detailed sequencing of works to manage interfaces between shaft construction, tunnelling, and asset installation
Ongoing engineering review to maintain compliance with specifications and standards
Collaboration with specialist subcontractors to implement proven trenchless engineering practices
